I’m a bit late for this reply, buuuut the absolute very best grip material I’ve found, ever, is “gutted” paracord: Take about 12’ of paracord and pull the inner white strands out. Then, take it to your laundry room and pull it under a hot iron to press it flat. Hot enough that it melts slightly. This is the side you’ll glue down. This will then be no thicker than very thin leather. Applying it is pretty simple just wrap the grip and finish as you would doing a string serving. I brush on some barge cement as I go to tack it down. Wrap tight and use enough that it barely oozes between wraps. Wrap it tight. After you are finished—and it dries— cut your tag end and melt it in with a lighter. (Fumes are flammable btw). Next, brush on a liberal coat of TruOil to seal the outside. This will darken whatever color you chose slightly. A day or two and this will dry out and the odor will subside. Anyway, this grip looks and feels great even in soaking rain and sweaty humidity. Always just right for me, maybe you’ll like it too.

Love’em! Such that it’s hard not to wax poetic about them. They have a way of ‘bending the archer’ to be shot the way they want to be shot. And when they do, that’s where the magic happens.

Ace hex is favorite, but these are a close second. I run a tap over the field point and cut threads then twist on. These are 1/4” nuts and add 40grains.

Fresh out of Ace Hex heads, so I made up some “nutters” For the time being. Cut threads, wrench on snug.

This chunky fella thought he was getting a pass this mornin... nope. Dog even got in on the fun! Side note: That cedar arrow is one I built as a teenager somewhere around 1992. Found it cleaning out a box recently, but don’t recall why I’d kept it separate. Might have been a good story (?).... oh well, back into service you go! Yep, still works

So after several previous outings and sightings tonight I went back out, found “Tarzan”, shot, and knocked him clean out of the tree. But that bugger caught the one twiggy branch between him and my dog and hauled himself clear up to the tippy-top of his tree, and all without the use of his back half! Mortally wounded, he nestled himself in a crook of stout branches where all I could see was his bushy tail hanging out. I studied it out and really thought he'd died up there but surprisingly he shifted showing just enough hide that I sent a second arrow skyward. With a thwack and a thud my second arrow glanced off the limb and caught fur—which sent Tarzan sailing and flailing yet again. Of course in super-squirrel fashion he caught yet another limb and just barely made the next cottonwood over, which still has most of its leaves up, and that’s where I lost him at sunset. So now the best I can hope for is that he falls out of that tree tonight and the dog can sniff him out in the morning... before some critter gets a free meal. Dang—dang—dang, I thought I had him tonight.

First, I do not shoot off-the-hand. I shoot off the shelf. But that said, the meat of my hand, the shelf, and the arrow are all coexisting right there together. This arrangement works fine until arrow fletching gets a little ragged and worn— then fate gets tempted, and I’ll get another permanent reminder to be mindful to keep my fletching in good repair even on stumpers and squirrel arrows. (I’m a slow learner, I should know better by now, this will probably happen again). Anyone else got scars upon scars like this?

Not sure if this is a bird-of-a-feather thing, or, if it just brings it out of us. But I just traded off a Fred Bear Signature Line bow quiver. The backstory on that hard plastic camp quiver began in the 80’s when as a teenager i was anticipating my very first deer bowhunt. I needed a quiver but couldn’t afford much but I found this bear quiver, new, at a yard sale for a few bucks. Unwilling to drill holes into the side of my prized Ben Pearson Colt (a $15 yard sale find just two years earlier) I cannibalized my old baseball glove for leather and with a piece of plywood, made up a belt-fob for this bow quiver to attach to. I lined the interior with green felt I stole from mother’s sewing drawer an hot glued it in place. It was a little floppy but worked well enough that I scored a muley buck my first day out. I think I used it for two seasons more before I got a proper side quiver. Eventually the remainder of that old ball glove became a leather cover for a plastic bow quiver and limb tip cover... I’m waxing nostalgic now and may have to go rummage around some.

Agreed. @Clovis6 my Arrows are 26.5 BOP my 22” Northern Mist quiver is almost too long, but my 21” Sunset Hill quiver is Just perfect. In reflecting on this I think it’s more about how they hang off the shoulder and how they partition the space than the total length— I think. Having hunted the NM so far this year, I do I prefer the ergonomics and layout of my Sunset Hill quiver more. Not sure if I’m gonna modify it to match or not. Probably will tho
