I completely agree that a R/D bow is not an ASL. I'll throw another one out there - Don't call an ASL a "D" bow. "D" bows used to refer to the cross section of the limbs. Flat on the back with a rounded belly such as a true English longbow. I hear lots of people call a bow (either an ASL or a mild R/D) a "D" bow because it's shaped like a "D" once strung. That bugs me for some reason.

That's exactly what I've been working on these days. Bow arm still up and hand against my face when the arrow hits the target = an accurate shot.

HA! No not backwards. The front came out the other side of the deer, broke off, and the back half stayed in for a bit longer while the blood pumped out the entrance wound. It was the first deer I ever saw blood spue out immediately when arrow hit. Lung/liver hit.

White fletching and white nocks for me! It's just my thing and I can't imagine having any other color.

The form I use to build ASLs is perfectly straight. After the bow is off the form, limbs are cut to shape, and I string it for the first time, it will take a little set and be "string follow" from that point on. Not much, but maybe about 1/2". It's unavoidable, unless the form has a bit of back set.

This pic was from ETAR a few years ago. Everything I'm using except the arm guard and glove I made. I'm certainly far from the the world's best bowyer, but when I occasionally shoot a bow that I didn't make, I kind of feel like I'm cheating on myself.

Gregg Coffey of Java Man Archery. Super nice guy and builds a great bow. I've really enjoyed my conversations with him on bow building and design around a campfire at ETAR. I hope things improve and I see him again this summer.

Dan - I remember that bow when you just got it and had it at Baltimore a few years ago. I still think it is one of the prettiest/classiest bows I've ever laid eyes on. Pictures really don't do it justice.

How about black on the back and clear on the belly over curly maple. I made this one a number of years ago.
