Took a little fork last Friday morning.  I'd passed on several small ones so far this season, but my life is pretty busy right now and with an empty freezer and four kids who LOVE venison... well when this guy presented me with a perfect shot I had to take it.  The arrow buried crest deep, mule kick, tail in circles and down in sight.  It was a nice sunny morning, calm, crisp and clear so I sat back down and poured myself some coffee from the thermos to enjoy the moment and solidify the memory.  Then I thought, let's make a good day, a great one.  I walked back to the truck, drove to town and went to my youngest son Jack's school.  Luckily for both of us his Catholic school principal, a woman who happens to be an avid hunter herself, said "I can't imagine him learning anything more meaningful here today than he would spending it with you."  That's something only a fellow hunter would know.  I then had one last phone call to make and asked my Dad to join us.
We didn't tell Jack that I saw the deer go down, instead telling him that Papa and I were there to help, but this blood trail was all his.  It was a great morning.

Dad loves blood trails that you can drink coffee on.  [wink]

If you look close you can see the business end of the Surewood shaft just in front of Jack.  Got to watch for those things.

Jack finding blood on the tree.

The moment he looked past the broken arrow shaft and saw the deer (Just left of his face in the pic).

The tail is a great thing to let a kid "work" on.  It takes a bit and nothing to screw up.

Day well spent.

Tim, I decided to post this after reading your post about your hunt with your sons and figured "that's the goal".

My easiest tracking job ever! She walked 10 yards, stopped, then fell over. Used a JD Berry Taipan, Whispering Wind arrow, and Cutthroat broadhead. Congrats to all so far and good luck with the remaining season.

Some great pix and stories there.

Good job guys, both in the hunting as well as in the inclusion of the lil ones....  Seeing the face of a young'n that is intent on the trail and finally sees fur is a fun time.

I also like the trails that you can drink coffee on, but sometimes they just don't work that way.

Sent my Tembo back to Craig to have some work done to it and so have been hunting with my all time favorite bow, the ol terrible Titan! Shot this fine buck at 12 FEET [cool] Snuffer thru the heart so you can imagine the blood trailing wasn't to hard on this one. Love getting critters in close like that, to me what its all about [thumb]
