great shot Vic, but we need to work on trophy pics...we would rather see the bow in the picture than that motley crew behind you

Tim, Vic’s longbow was in my truck back at the hotel. We needed to go back to the hotel to get Dan’s Jeep and winch to pull Joel out a hole.

Ha ha ...someone needs to write up the story of this hunt. Great job on the deer.  I want details.  Sounds like a good time.

Greg, I wish you were here with the crew! I’m talking to Dan about a deer hunt next year in NJ on public land.

Yeah, this year wasn't in the cards.  Too many other hunts Elk, Bear, and I still want to get down to the shore for a sika chase sometime.  Maybe next year.

Tim - no deer taken, but I did bury one in this tree that a nice doe was hiding behind and I killed this fierce one-eared rabbit that was terrorizing our hunting camp. Won’t mention the low miss on a doe at 22 yards when the string hit my arm guard so hard Joel thought I had shot at it with a gun. Probably just as well, we saw it every day and she had kinda become our pet deer.

Bob, that rabbit does look ferocious....

One question though, armguard? You need an armguard with your BW?

Since it was Joel’s hunt I was shooting my 68”, 51# Jet Wolverine all week. When I shot the tree I caught the limb on a sapling and couldn’t swing it far enough to the right for a clean shot. Just one of those things. The arm guard problem happened because I was wearing a thick coat that I had never practiced in and just got my bow arm a bit too straight.

Here’s a link to our trip to Bill Mason’s the taxidermist that’s doing Vic’s mount. The link has pictures and descriptions of some of Howard Hill’s original longbows.

It’s been a long day. Whenever you do these out of state hunts depending on how far it is there’s usually a day of travel to and from. The travel alone could be tiresome. The highlight of the trip was hanging out with Bob, Dan, Vic, and Joel, and being on the hunt when Vic took his first deer ever. Meeting Bill Mason and getting the opportunity to see a longbow built by Howard with Vulcanized fiber was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I will always remember. Here’s some more pictures I took while on the hunt.
