I have bow fished casually for several years as just something to do. However the last couple years my son and grandsons have been really getting into it. The grandsons love it because of the constant action and you can laugh and be as noisy as you want.

This spring we entered our first tournament ever, it was just for the youth 16 and under but dads and grandpa's could go and drive the boats and tend gear. We had no idea what to expect but we learned in a hurry we where out gunned by both fishing equipment and boats.

All we had where tape on reels with a couple old beat up recurve and a couple extra arrows. Our boat was my old 14 foot flat bottom with a little wood platform Shane and I threw together earlier that spring. Oh yeah and it was powered by a little 30 pound thrust electric trolling motor. Honestly this set up worked fine for our little lakes and creeks we where used to fishing. Wow - it was like taking a dull butter knife to a full auto gun fight.

However since that trip early May we have made some huge improvements in our equipment and this has become a totally family fun filled adventure. With a lot more great stories and pictures to come.

P.S. Thanks Michael for adding this section!

This was our normal method of bow fishing.

Our first boat and tournament.

This is our new 20ft John boat with 45hp Mercury and 50lb thrust electric motor. We are just finishing up the platform and we are installing 6 400 watt sodium lights powered by a 4000 watt generator. We have added two newer higher poundage recurves and one bow with cams and junk for deeper water bigger carp. More pics to come.

outstanding, great job.  I am at work tonight, I am going bowfishing tomorrow night.  I will try and add some pics of my rig and hopfully some more fish.  yes next to deer hunting I love bowfishing.  Personally, I prefer a shakespeare over any other reel.
