Mail lady just dropped off a long skinny tube about an hour ago. Inside that tube was a longbow that herb meland reintroduced to his lineup of fine hunting weapons. He brought back his “Teton” model which is a backset Hill style longbow. I saw him post about brining this model back and I figured I’d volunteer as guinea pig and put my order in. I’ve owned some of herbs bows in the past and they were all shooters and flawlessly crafted so it was an easy decision. First impressions of this bow which is all maple with black glass and about an inch of backset was that he bow is very well made. There isn’t any file marks or saw chatter anywhere on the bow and the string grooves are cut in straight. The bow sights up well with no waviness in the glass or the sides of the limbs whatsoever. The limbs are nicely and EVENLY trapped. The bow pulls very very smooth. It’s a very pleasant 53#. There is minimal handshock if any and it sure seems to shoot a fast arrow. I’ll have to run it through the chrono and get it out on the field course for some 50+ yard shots. All in all it’s a very well built and great shooting bow! Herb is another option for a well made custom Hill style longbow a long with Dave miller, Steve Turay and a few others. Enjoy the pics!

Another beauty Justin. I can see that as you sell off some of your heavier bows you are replacing them with new ones. Love that thought process.

I can see why you like that bow. It’s nicely done. I see the grip is rounded. Do you prefer a rounded grip or square grip?

It’s rounded but it’s comforable. I’m not overly picky on grips as long as it isn’t too deep or wide. This grip is similar to one of howard Hill archery’s current offerings but a little deeper.

It came with tip overlays which is fine because it’s herbs own style. I actually put a low stretch string on it which I never do anymore! I prefer no overlays or wedges but a little diversity isn’t such a bad thing on the bow rack!

He has a few stock Tetons on his website. The price on those is what I paid.

Nice bow. Does any one know the difference between the Teton and his Nighthawk ASL? They say the Teton is a Hill style but I thought an ASL was a Hill style? Are they both straight limb but with different handle grips?

Great looking bow, the quality seems top-notch.  If it's anything like his TD Pronghorns it has to be a sweet shooter.  Looks like Herb put a little deflex in the limbs rather than using the typical straight setback approach...I suspect that makes for a smoother draw and reduced vibration.  I hope Herb is doing well.
