Just got home from work and I was able to fling a few with this new american! Wow is all I can say. This bow has it all. My other american was the very first one steve made and he’s changed a few things since then and I seriously thought a longbow couldn’t get any better than that first one....well I was wrong! This new one is ridiculous! This particular American is also one of one with something a little different than the others. Can’t go into too many details but lemme say I like it [wink]

Wow! Two parallel lams and two skinny tapered laminations, one of which tapers out about 2/3 of the way up and the other at the tip.  Never saw that before.  Does yield a thickness taper moving toward the tip.  I have no idea how it might compare to the standard taper in which all or most of the lams are tapered.

Steve, if you're looking at this one, can you give us your take/rationale on this?

It is an experimental bow. It’s one of one to test out. The Americans will stay the same as they’ve always been with their current tapers. This leaf spring one performs the same as the current American in the chrono. It has a little bit different profile when strung and pulls a little different than the current american. It’s a great shooting bow. I haven’t taken it to the range yet but I’ll be sure to report on it when I do. I wanna stretch it out a bit on some longer shots. I shot it for about an hour today around the house and so far I really like it!

Man that is a funky looking lam stack! I like it. Id love to shoot it side by side with my regular American just to see how it feels. I'm curious to see the how, why, and whatfor behind it. Love seeing new and different ways to build a bow. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Here’s a few of my hills from the 60s. They have a similar taper. They only have 3 lams instead of 4 with the belly lam all but disappearing towards the limb tips.

Had a chance to finally get the american to the range. Just as expected, Great speed, cast, and gentle in the hand. The leaf spring taper works out pretty good. It has a little different pull and feels a little different after the shot but both are pleasant. All in all a great bow which is par for the course for a northern mist. I do feel like I may have to address my shoulder issue after shooting today. I don’t know if it was the 19 degree weather but My bow shoulder is hurting bad 😔

Don't put off having a doc look at that shoulder Justin. Been dare, done that. I know Steve was kinda curious about the "leaf spring" construction. Glad you like it.
