I just got in last night from an 11 day adventure in the Northern Territory of Australia, hunting their legendary Asiatic Water Buffalo herd. Thom Jorgenson and I had started discussing this trip a couple of years ago over coffee in the South Africa camp we were both hunting at the time. (seems that s how the best hunts start getting planned!)
We booked withTyler Chubb, of Ironbark Outfitters who just a couple of years ago bought the business from the Australian legend Mick Baker.
My youngest son Jake added the expedition, so my friend Mick decided to tag along and help guide.

I have a Water Buffalo from Argentina, and a Cape Buffalo from Africa, but wanted to to Oz to get the 3rd major type of water buffalo.

Even though I knew the travel was going to be grueling certainly underestimated the length of it . And I get off of the plane last night we had just completed 24 hours of ACTUAL flying time just for the return trip alone , not counting layovers

A grueling trip, and I will post pics after I get some sleep!

I really WAS NOT delaying to gain anticipation, I am just dead dog tired!
Jet lag is kitcking my a@*....

First, how awesome is it to be able to say you spent 7 days in a hot, dusty, insect infested primitive camp with 4 guys, and would do it again tomorrow?
I know that am not the easiest guy to hang out with, and perhaps finding good hunting partners is the best part of our sport...

Second, the Australian outback is everything I imagined it to be...vast, untamed, and tough.
Everything that lives there, including its human inhabitants, seems to be the winner in some form of Darwinism...

Jake and I each killed 2 buffalo apiece, and Thom a buffalo, a scrub bull, and 2 pigs.

I estimate that Jake and I had between 40-50 stalks on buffalo bulls, with 90% of them ending with us being 'busted' around 35 yards. We saw crocs, wallaby, kangaroos, and also had stalks on dingo and feral cats.
Fantastic trip, an unforgettable experience all around

It's amazing what can be done with a simple stick and string.  What was your setup?

Thom was shooting #86 BW longbow, Black Eagle shafts, with Tuffhead broadheads

Equipment performed flawlessly

That waterhole pic reminds me of Croc Dundee. Were you on "belongamick" territory ?

In that middle pic where the Buff is staring you two down must have been intense.   Great that you could make that trip with your son.  Frank

It’s a long way and “the territory” even further. Congrats on your fine trophies.
Feral cats are an enormous problem for the native fauna and need to be eradicated any way possible.
