Thinking of a new Bow. Is yew still a good choice for limbs? Old growth , new growth is that a issue or not. Seems like bamboo is used a lot. Limb life I am thinking about.

I recently had a custom asl longbow built for me. y request was that it look like I took it out of a museum and started shooting it. I wanted it to be made with material for "back then". I left it up to the bowyer and he chose black locust for the limbs and figured myrtle for the riser block. I can't speak to the performance but the wood is beautiful.

Replying to
I am getting a seconded bow, did the same with the first and ended with black locust limbs and Brazilian rosewood.

Yew and bamboo are both good core "woods" for ASLs. I have both. Can't really tell any difference in performance, smoothness of draw, etc. I like the appearance of yew better.
