Okay Chuck, you asked for it - As always, Tim (and Bisch) did a great job taking care of us on the hunt (Mar 26-29). I was joined by Big Josh (WI) and Little Josh (Dallas, TX) for most of the time. Made a good shot on the Scimitar Oryx the first night and then things got complicated. On the second day the target was a Blackbuck Ram. Sat with Bisch in the morning and we had multiple shot opportunities on a black Blackbuck ram and 2 Chocolate rams. Wanted a black one, but the one we watched for 20-30 min was not quite the animal we were looking for, and we still had 2 full days to hunt so we passed. (Note to self: Don't get greedy; nice on the wall is almost always better than a great one that gets away.) That evening we had a potential shot at a very nice black ram but I drew too fast and he picked up the tip of my arrow moving in the sun. Next thing I knew he was 50 yards away and disappearing fast. Went back to the same blind the following morning and had the best black ram we had seen come in very casually and decide he was going to stand almost broadside in front of my shooting window. Got about a third of the way into the draw and and an Axis doe stepped in front of him. Then a Fallow spike decided to butt the Blackbuck in the head. With that, he decided he'd had enough and walked away without giving me a shot. Tamest Blackbuck ram I've ever seen. We then switched to concentrating on Fallow deer, but didn't see any to shoot at the evening or morning sits. We did see swarms of Whitetail so I expect the fall deer season will go well. Had one more sit on Sunday afternoon and Tim put me right in front of my nemesis, the white phase Fallow buck. Instead of waiting for him to move in front of the center window on the blind, I got nervous and decided to take a shot through one of the side windows. Had to lean way over to get a line. It was a very small blind so Tim had to scrunch himself up in the corner so I could shoot. I knew I was clear of the side of the blind (Tim will debate this), but it was an older style blind that had the window frame extend 1-2" inside the blind rather than flush with the wall. I had not noticed it and the top limb hit the frame when I shot. The arrow was on line, but probably an inch or two over his back. As an aside, the red/spotted phase Fallow buck we were actually pursuing dropped his antlers the night before. He came and stood broadside in front of the center window at 8 yards for about 15 minutes. Tim found one of the antlers earlier in the day, but not the other. I told him if he had found both, I would have shot the red and glued them back on for the wall mount. Very nice animal. Going to get back after him late in the fall or more likely Jan 2022. In summary, a good time was had by all.
