That’s a great way to start off the 2021 season James and Colin!
Well done Colin and great shootin' there James.
Thank you
James and Colin, Congrats!!!
Awesome !
Ok here's mine NWTF Score = 69.1875. Bow was a 44# Black Widow PLX and the two nice looking decoys were DSD's and the other was an unknown. This was shot this morning at around 8am. It all started at 7:30 am when I spotted this guy and another tom across the field. So I made a few yelps on my box call and I see a hen starting towards me with both toms walking with her and strutting. I shut up and let nature take it's course. Before you know it, the hen comes into the decoys with the toms standing off to the side. She then circles my hen decoys and pecks the hell out of them and gives them a wing thrashing and walks off to the side. You'll notice the dent in the side of the one hen and the other that is tilted. Meanwhile the toms are just standing there watching the show. I made a couple of soft purrs and those toms came in like B52 Bombers and attacked the 3/4 strut jake and gave him a beating that an MMA fighter would be proud of. Meanwhile, Im sitting in the blind thinking when will I get a shot at one of those toms, and about that time the big one steps to the side and turns away and I drove a 1916 shaft tipped with a 175 VPA 3 blade into his vitals and he was down for the count. His buddy sees him laying there dying and runs over a does a death dance on his body. Feathers flying everywhere and the hen blazing a trail out of there like here tail feathers were on fire! Well, needless to say, I wasn't gonna let him beat up my bird, so I hauled ass out of the blind and ran him off. The shot was about 8 yards. The bird weighed 23.70 lbs. and his spurs were both 1.25" and his beard was 10.25". This was the second day of our Indiana season and to top it off, I took my 12 year old grandson Colin out for his first hunt on Saturday's opener for youth Turkey with his Mossberg 500 20 GA. and he shot a beautiful tom that had a NWTF score of 75.25! What a season!! I think I may have a hunting partner!
Hey Aaron, good hunting and be safe!
Season opener in Upper Michigan is tomorrow, so I'm hitting the woods with my longbow! Hopefully I can get it done again!
So... any turkeys guys?
This post needed a picture 🦃
It’s going to be fun to see who will be the Grand Champion
I'm in if i kill a turkey. It'll be the first with a bow.
I once measured my own pronghorn and it came up a new world record. Wasn't supported by the official measurements! :)
Here’s a good pocket size scale from 3Rivers Archery.

James, Spring turkey hunting is the best time of the year to be in the wood.
Sounds like fun! Our season doesn’t open till mid April. But, it is something to look forward to.
