Sometime in 1984 Fred Anderson sent Hugh Rich a Skookum longbow he made for him. Hugh was very impressed with it and sent it to Harvey Overshiner at Traditional Archery magazine to review and test. Harvey was also impressed and published his review in issue 14. When done with the bow Harvey sent it back to Hugh. A few days later Hugh received a long tube from UPS. An empty tube! No bow.
When Hugh had his shop in Glendale, CA, he got to know the UPS driver pretty well. That driver was eventually made a supervisor and no longer made deliveries.
After receiving the empty tube, Hugh called UPS and asked to speak to a supervisor. A man got on the line and introduced himself and said he was a supervisor. Hugh immediately recognized the name and voice. It was the former driver. Hugh explained what happened and the supervisor said he would take care of it. The next day UPS shows up with a long tube, this time there was a bow in it.
The driver told Hugh he didn't know what was in the tube, but his boss said if anything happened to it, he should look for a new job.
Another case of, it's not what you know, it's who you know.
That bow is now at the NFAA museum.

Thanks for sharing that and a interesting story!!!! Thank you Mr Ira
