I started a few string boards a couple of days ago. They're in varying stages of completion. One is Myrtle, I think, and the rest are salvaged redwood from northern California. I leave the raw/live edges as harvested and finish the top and bottom planed surfaces. The hardware is SS pop rivets and cut up 1/8" SS welding rod. I use a fine tip dip pen and India Ink for the numbers. This is the first time I've used white which I just found out exists. So far, Tru-Oil seems to work best and is what's used on these.

Absolutely beautiful work Jaz. I have a few pieces of nice woods, I have a piece of ebony that I think would look good with white lettering.
Where does one buy pins for a string board?
Really beautiful string boards! Nice work. Mine looks like firewood!!
I would hate to have to put a clamp on one of those, but maybe I'm alone in having to clamp my board to a bench for making strings?
Lovely penmanship! My days of drafting are long over, but I would have been proud to freehand lettering like yours!
Beautiful!
I see the quill pen in the picture, but the writing looks like it was done with a felt tip. The penmanship and lines are really nice.
I use 3/4" plywood for my bow string jig and hide it in the basement. Just like the doe with her fawns the other day, way too pretty to put a hole in. I agree, just hang the wood on the wall.
Those are beautiful. I envy your work. I can only wish I could make one. I’m good with metal, not so good with wood. 😃
String boards my eye! Those are art that should be hung on the wall.
Beautiful boards!! You are inspiring me to make a new one
That’s one heck of a nice string board!!
These are incredible...great idea! Still using my comparatively-crappy pine board with brass nails job. LOL! Well done, Sir.
