A skwerl challenge.... its not time....yet....but its time to build arrows and get ready. Lets do a skwerl hunt this year and share pictures. A real skwerl hunt, where that's what you are chasing, not just an opportunity if one saunters by your deer stand. Tell us about your equipment and hunt style.

No late-spring season here in PA. Fall season runs middle of Sep to end of Feb but is broken up in pieces so as not to overly conflict with deer seasons (except the archery seasons of course). Rarely go after them purposely, but usually carry a couple flu-flu blunts in my back quiver for when I'm headed back in after a morning sit in the deer blind. Guess I would say I'm a stalker rather than a sitter. Shoot at them on the ground mostly, but will take the occassional tree shot if they are close, on the trunk, and no more than about 10 feet high. Want to be able to hit the tree if I miss the squirrel. Season opens about a week before deer archery this year, so I may try to get out for a day or two in an area a good distance away from my blind. Seems like this would be a fun hunt with a bunch of guys, but I suspect more than 2-3 folks in any area would create enough ruckas to just send them to the tree tops.
That's my situation too. I have evolved and I'm not sure I like it. Gonna try to get back to my roots starting this fall. Hunt everything, on its own, not just cause one walked by while i was deer hunting.
Tennessee's Spring season was May 8 - June 13. I didn't go this year. Been renovating (more like, constructing) and staffing a new office location. I may take the grandsons in the Fall-Winter (opens in late August, I think). I don't see nearly as many as I used to, but I am seeing a lot more hawks and eagles (go figure).
The wife won't eat squirrel, so I haven't hunted them much over the years. I claim to, but I'm really scouting deer or coyotes.
ChuckC,I was successful in missing several, sweating allot and loosing several good cedar arrows. It’s been along while sence I’ve took a shot at a squirrel with my longbow but I did have some enjoyment, plenty of them to hunt here but they seemed on the small side and very skittish from the hawks and coyotes this spring, makes a good excuse for missing anyway.better luck this fall.
Any updates ? My season doesn't start till mid September.
I’d like to see what you come up with Longcruise. This batch of “nutters” performed admirably last fall, will use them again when October finally gets here, sheesh.
Hmm, thick foliage, oppressive heat and humidity not to mention ticks, chiggers and venomous snakes... Probably gonna wait till fall anyway 😉
Man...you lucky dudes with the early seasons !
Spring season’s open here in TN,I’ll go see if I can miss a few...haha...I know I’ll be successful in endeavor.
We open October 1st. I'll play! 😀
I have an idea 💡 for a small game arrow. Will be making some up over summer. I'll do a build along here on TAS.
Our season in Oklahoma just opened the 15th. I went out and only saw one and didn't get any shots.
I'm in!
I use the same arrows for skwerl as for deer. I've thumped so many with blunts and watched them get away so I don't do that anymore. A broadhead seems to persuade them to stay put.
That said, no tree shots for me 😜 Our season opens in October. I start hunting them in November when they are on the ground and nut drunk.
Wow. Ours won't open till September. I gotta wait and check out your pix...shoot straight..take pix.
Sounds like fun. I just checked and the season opened 5/15. I've been out and about and it seems that there are a few around this year...
