Guys, I highly recommend shipping longbows in vinyl downspouts from the big box hardware stores or your local ace. I’ve been doing this for the last 5 years or so and it works great. They’re light, durable, and do not roll around like pvc. I cap the ends with one or two cardboard cutouts and voila. They’re cheap and you can buy connectors so your cutoffs don’t go to waste. Takes about 10 seconds to rip through with a hacksaw to cut to length. That being said, I haven’t posted up a bow in awhile because of issues with usps. I’ve had just about every bow I’ve shipped and received go missing for 6 to 37 days (and counting). I did however get this bow from California in 3 days. It’s nice to get the service you pay for every once in awhile. Anyways, I picked up this Matlock ”predator classic” and boy is she something. I owned quite a few matlocks but never one of his hill styles. I didn’t even know they existed. Bill Matlock made some of the fastest bows I’ve shot to date. I’ve owned every edition of the predator hybrids, the parabola, and a few of his swift recurves. My late mentor leo was pretty tight with bill Matlock and he was one of his biggest fans. I gather bill was quite a character and way ahead of his time when it came to bow design. It’s a shame he had his health issues because he was a talent. Here she is. Predator classic 70” 48@28, bamboo limbs, black glass over carbon on the back, black glass on the belly, east indian rosewood riser all done in a mirror gloss finish. I buffed the bow out last night and it looks soaking wet It’s so shiny. What a rare find!

A sharp looking longbow, great wood in it as well and the craftsmanship and design look spot on.Very Nice!Justin the fine longbow 🧲,looking for a “Pete George” with finders fee..:-)
I didn't know those existed either.
Very nice bow. And thanks for the gutter tip.
Beautiful bow Justin. You sure find some gems!
It sure is. Pete George was about tops for hill style bowyers in his era. Leo sent Jack Harrison a pete george longbow I had picked up that was pretty beat up for a refinish and jack ended up offering a trade for the pete saying it was one of the best built longbows he has ever seen. He still has that bow. Jack was stingy with his compliments regarding other longbows but he was pretty impressed with that old pete george.
Yes, it is. To bad neither one makes bows anymore.
Is that the Pete George Highlander I ended up with. That’s a fine bow. thanks for sharing that story!
Wow, that buffed out real nice. Bill Matlock came to the archery store in Escondido Ca. years ago, late 90’s? He was holding a class on shooting LB’s. He was big on a properl made string. Think he made us all new strings. He also shot our bows, making comments about what he thought about them. That was until he shot my Pete George LB. He couldn’t find anything negative and asked the makers name. I told him and he said “well made bow”. Made me feel good. Think he was living in NM at the time. All in all it was a good day and I learned a lot from him. Also learned I could shoot vanes out of that LB.
You aint kiddin! you can shoot a piano wire if you wanted to with these tips! 😆
Justin, I love it dude! Bill was one hell of a bowyer. That bow has his classic Matlock bomb proof tips.
