2nd attempt at posting
I was finally able to track down my new longbow after work tonight. Unfortunately it had to spend the night in the post office last night due to no one being at the house to sign for the package. My wife, being the understanding lady she is, was nice enough to swing by the post office to scoop it up before her high school football game supervision tonight. After punching out at 630pm I hauled booty over to our local hs where my wife is the principal and transferred the long skinny tube from her SUV to my pickup truck. I finally made it home about 745pm to relieve my mother and father in law from baby sitting duties and after saying our goodbyes I ripped into the package. Inside this tube was a longbow from Mr John Strunk. A good buddy of mine recently acquire a bow by John called “bamboo spirit“. his bow is A bamboo backed, lemon wood, stringfollow longbow. I thought this bow was one the prettiest things I’ve seen so I asked him if it was okay if I contacted John to see if he could build me one just like it and he said sure! I sent Pics to John and he remembered the bow and said he could make one similar but he would use yew wood instead of lemonwood and I said that would work out just fine! i said I’d like this bow to be in the spirit of howard Hill and he said no problem. This bow is 67” 53@28 bamboo backed yew with a blood wood accent line Running the length of the bow. This bow is flawlessly constructed. It’s perfectly straight and symmetrical. It’s absolutely perfect and its easy to see why John is considered THEE MAN when it comes to selfbows. The scary thing is that this bow is one of the most dead in the hand longbows I’ve shot. There is zero and I mean zero hand shock. This bow seems very energetic as well. It seems to shoot a wee bit quicker than some of the glass backed stringfollows I’ve owned over the years. I’ll report on that a little more in depth later on. All in all, I absolutely love this bow. kudos to John as well. He’s one of the nicest guys I’ve talked To. He’s a super person. Enjoy the pics. More to come
That longbow is simply stunning. That's a great purchase.
I have no doubt I will be happy. I've shot several of his self bows in the past and his work and performance is always exceptional. I wonder if this bow is going to be like Lay's Potato Chips. LoL
same thing that happened to me pretty much. My buddy picked one up and it looked just like some of my old schulz naturals and I knew I had to at least call and ask john about it. at the time I didn’t know if he was still building bows or not. when I talked to him I said I wanted a bow to look like something in the spirit of Howard hill and he said no problem. It turned out fantastic and shoots better than any non glassed bow I’ve owned so far. You’ll be pleased im certain.
Same as yours Justin. Came here to this site for the first time in awhile and saw your post....imagine my surprise when the "there's my bow" moment hit! After three years of trying to find a Schulz or Miller replacement for a blown "Sage", I was told John was building his Spirit in the ASL style. Called him immediately! LoL. He's just like doing business with Craig Ekin......top notch customer care, and honest time frame estimation. Can't ask for more than that.
Pics coming when it gets here.
Yup John is a FF guy to the core. I have a FF endless on mine. its honestly one of the most dead in the hand bows I have ever owned. He’s the man. Please post up some pics. What model did you order from him?
Justin - John is finishing up one for me at present. I asked him about his choice of string materials and was surprised when he told me he hasn't put anything other than FF on all his bows for the past 20+ years. The pics of your bow doesn't make my short wait time any easier!
That's a beaut for sure. Congrats.
I had to try 😊
Justin, are you ready to sell it? 😁
As my Buddy Bob Moon says....“John Strunk is a national treasure”! I tend to agree. Fastest turn around on any custom bow I’ve ever ordered and one of the nicest guys I’ve ever dealt with and just a wealth of knowledge. The Godfather of the the selfbow.
Newellie, you do acquire some good lookin' bows, and this one appears flawless; good luck with it.
Shick in Pa.
Have to agree with Deno, it is a work of art!!

Justin, I’d say John knocked it outta the park on that bow. That is beautiful!
