I have very few bows in my collection that were not made in San Diego. A '62 Damon Howatt Hi-Speed, a late model Fasco, and an Anniversary Black Widow made for Gordon Plastics Inc. The Howatt has no San Diego connection, but it's an early Howatt, what can I say? Even though the others were not physically made in San Diego they do have connections.
I have another, a gift from my wife, fashioned after nothing less, than another early Damon Howatt and named by its creator, Mojo-Retro.
He learned his trade, working for Fasco during their early years in San Diego. An avid archer before that, he lusted after a 50's Damon Howatt Mamba but could not afford one then. Years later, he would be known for a famous line of longbows. This bow, Mojo-Retro he fashioned after the bow he wanted many years before. A 62" recurve, it's 43#@28". The limb cores are Maple and Gordon, bias-ply carbon. Stained fiddle back Maple is under clear glass, riser woods are, Maple, Purpleheart, Osage Orange, and Black Palm. When shown to Gale Martin and Larry Hatfield, it is reported to have received, a "nod of approval".
Made in 2012, to be his own personal bow, he made the mistake of answering a phone call from my wife.
Now it belongs to me, thanks to her.....and this fella that made it.
Who made it?

I was thinking Fred too when I seen the craftsmanship!
I KNEW I saw that bow before. My favorite video with Steve.

Fred also used Mojo-Retro during the filming of, Pure Bowhunting.
Fred Anderson is Correct.
I thought Fred also Steve.
Fred is a top notch bowyer. That is beautiful workmanship.

Would that bow be made by a scurvy gentleman by the name of Mr. Fred Anderson?
Don’t know the bowyer but it is a beautiful old school recurve with some very different looking carbon limbs and perfect specs!Your lucky to own it!
Based on the sketchy history and design of the bow with colorful laminations, and recurve overlay, it looks like it was made by Damon Howatt in Yakima, Wa., prior to is untimely death in a car accident in 1966. I believe it was made between 1960 and 66.
