This is my first giveaway. A set of six Iron Will broadheads. I've had these for a long time but have never found a use for them. I'll draw a name from the entries next Sunday evening, 9/5/21, and will announce the winner either that night or first thing Monday morning. These weigh between 171 and 172 grains each. Never used.
Rules to qualify your entry below!

To qualify, I need your opinion. Posting your opinion here enters you. I'm thinking of giving a bow or two away here. They're very good quality (Habu and Caribow), gently used bows but in excellent condition. They may be a little heavy for some (63# and mid-50's#, respectively), but nice bows. I'm thinking of making the entry rules this:
1. Recruit a new member to this site and have them post to the bow giveaway thread with your name. You and the new member would be entered into the drawing. I'm a big fan of this site and you folks. I think there are others who could contribute and enjoy the site, as well. I'd like to see more like-minded folks become members here.
2. Available to Continental US addresses only and the winner must pay $35 for shipping (They're one-piece bows and will ship in a PVC tube).
Poll Questions:
Do you see a drawing like this as a good idea? Why or why not?
How many of you would participate in such a giveaway and how much time should I allow as an entry period (It is a recruiting campaign, after all)?
You must post your thoughts here in order to be entered into the Broadheads drawing.
Thanks,
Rick

Yes....and it sets us apart. Ya know....i am membership chair for the WI traditional archers, the state group, and at the moment, acting President. I am also 66 years old...not OLD, but getting there. 30 years ago i woulda been called old, but i refuse to give it up ( and, according to my wife....grow up), and my dog Fred helps me.
I see, at our trad shoots, what i do not see at other shoots. Folks camping. Folks playing. Folks not keeping score but rather having a great time. Do i care if i shoot poorly ? Hell yes. Just shoot a round with the likes of Bisch, or your state champ and see what CAN be done. Yes....i am working diligently, but i am also having fun. See my instagram and facebook posts. Traditional archery can be lots of fun...if you let it. It can also allow you to be a part of mama nature in a way you just cannot be with more high tech stuff. Not better....different. remember that. Different. Again....i challenge you....all of you, to find ways to have fun while doing our trad thing, and then share it. Skwerl season in WI starts in about 3 weeks.
There are many reasons to give something away. In my case, it would be to get rid of stuff that I can't use or no longer want and put it in the hands of someone who will either use it or add it to their personal collection.
Most of what I give away is not monetarily valuable, but may be of historic worth. Why should I hoard these items when they can be given a new home?
On the other hand, there are those that have, and will likely continue, to offer up things that are indeed worth more than a few bucks. More power to them.
Nothing, so far, has been a budget buster concerning shipping. However, if I do at some point give away an item that incurs substantial shipping cost, I very well may ask for the recipient to pay for it. I don't think that's unreasonable.
Lastly, I encourage everyone to look at your archery gear and see what you no longer have need for, but is still in good condition. To paraphrase a bit, one man's unwanted stuff is another man's useful tackle.
Besides, giving stuff away makes you feel good!
Well said, Chuck!
This bow giveaway idea is dying on the vine.
As I am cleaning up and preparing to build a work shop, I've discovered a lot of things that may make good giveaways. They also have value. Perhaps I've been a bit overzealous in my desire to mix giving some neat things away while simultaneously trying to grow our membership. The idea came from a good place and was well-intended, but it may be best if I just stay in my lane, here.
I will continue to offer some giveaways, I imagine. But they will be smaller, less valuable items offered merely for the standard, "I'm in." entry post.
Rick
Mr Green. Thank you for your generosity. I am also one that already owns three or four lifetimes of broadheads and don't need more. I, however, applaud your generosity.
As stated above....i also believe that we need to gain back some of what we had in the past. We lost a lot of old timers. By that i am speaking not of age but of experience, both in archery and with this site. In the past we did a lot together. An unbelievable amount. Sure. Not everybody can just drop everything and go play. In any group there is that. But even those that couldn't go play lived vicariously thru us. I don't know how many group or, at least partnered up with a TASer that i had never actually met, hunts i have been on. Ga. Ok, Tx. Ut, Co, Me all come to mind, with some of those being multiple times. And don't forget the World championship in In.
It was fun, but, ya know what....the software got old. They weren't updating or fixing, or whatever that is called and it had to be switched. Frankly, none of us liked the new software, but it is what it is, and newer folks to the site have no idea there was a change.
We used to talk about hunts past and hunts to come. We argued as to the veracity of one bow, arrow, head, shooting style, camo over any other. And we shared knowledge. We also did a pretty decent job of steering. Keeping things civil. You have no idea how easy and quickly things can go south, especially if someone is trying to make it happen.
We were a team...a group. When i shook hands with Tim, and Kent, and Bob, and Andrew, and Steve, and Daniel, and Darren.....and 30 or 40 others it was like i already knew them.
Participating is the key. And that.....is up to each of us. Do it as much and as often as you can and we can have some of that back. That's the only way...
Rick, you are a generous soul! However, I feel your generosity is misplaced in this instance.
Expensive inducements aren't the way forward. The quality of posts rather than a large membership is what it takes to make a stellar forum. After all there is no guarantee that an increased membership is going to make this forum more active. I'd much rather have the silent old guard participate regularly and let the membership grow naturally.
Little giveaways are fine and I wouldn't consider them to be inducements (carrots).
My Tuppence for whatever it is worth and I trust I am not misunderstood.
Regards,
Rustam
P.S.: Please do not put my name in the hat for the broadheads.
And as far as paying for shipping that is MORE than reasonable request and if people don't like it they don't have to be involved and really we probably don't want that kinda person on here anyway!
I think it would be a great way to try and recruit new members and is very generous on your part! As far as how long to run it I think that would depend on the participation level, say you run it for a month to start with and at the end of that month there is still alot of participation, as far as bringing in more new members, you could extend it for another month and if the participation has fallen off you could call it! I think that just goes for how long you are willing to be tied up with checking in to make sure people are still participating and how people will respond.
PLEASE don't enter me in the contest. I have no use for screw in broadheads. But hats off to you for your generosity!
That said, I would add to your concerns about shipping over seas the taxes you would pay on the bow. You may be willing to give them away, but the governments of whatever country they would go to want their import tax. Which could be steep.
This seems like a great idea for a giveaway to generate traffic to the site. My only suggestion is having it be free shipping at least for the first one or two to get people interested.
👍👍
Well done Rick! I also prefer to keep the giveaways in the lower 48. Just my preference. No insult intended to trad brothers and sisters in other countries.
Rick, I shared your giveaway on the TAS Facebook group. Thanks! D.
"Can folks enter more than once?"
Absolutely! The idea is to increase membership here. If one member recruits a dozen new members, that existing member should be awarded a dozen entries.
RG
Nope. I understand. Can folks enter more than once? Some folks might go on a tear if their name could be entered every time they recruited a new member. I think that would be a good way to generate a lot more responses.
Very generous of you. I'll give you my opinion, but i'm not interested in the broadheads. I would like the idea if the bows were lighter weight. Nowadays, there just aren't many folks shooting over 50#. I expect most who enter would attempt to resell the bows if they won. OK, I suppose, but the potential hassle of doing so might keep some from entering.
Why limit it to the Continental U.S? There certainly are knowledgeable trad archers in other countries who could contribute to the site. Of course, would need to stipulate that they would need to pick up any additional shipping costs if they won. Are there additional (fraud type) concerns?
Since you raised the topic, I'm going to suggest that a couple of my trad friends check out this site. Will continue to do that regardless, but probably wouldn't put my name in for a bow. I have most of what I want and I'm one of those for whom the weights are now too heavy.
