In a situation where I'm being forced to do some downsizing and getting ready to sell all but a handful of the bows that have found there way into my house over the past couple of decades. The question for all you bow hoaders out there - if you could only have 3 bows, would you keep 1 each of 3 different bow styles (selfbow, ASL, recurve, hybrid longbow, etc) or 3 of the same style? What style(s) would you choose? For extra credit, what makes of bow that you currently own would you keep?

After a lifetime of shooting, for many bows either become just another archery tool or a valued reminder of special times and memories. Based on that approach I would select three of the bows I currently own, probably my Super Shrew hybrid, 21st Century longbow and Black Widow MA recurve. All have performed well for me and make me smile. Which is really what it's all about.
The Big Five HHA, by Tim Miegs
DAS Master Hunter (by David Sosa), new to me but hasn’t stopped impressing me.
An Osage Selfbow I made myself, a Robertson Falcon Vision and a Howard Hill Big 5. I have 2 out of 3 so I'm happy with that
I’d keep one of each and it would be
1 my DQ canebrake in the recurve category
2 my Harrison American Wolf in the d/r longbow category
3 the hill style category is tough because I have so many good ones. I’d hang on to my northern mist american that steve built me using the vintage glass I sent him. My Td Belcher, pronghorn Teton, and two tracks echo are close to that number one spot as well.
I want to say all three JD Berry Taipains but to be honest It would be my 62" 51@28 , a Bear 59r and my 58" 51@28' Cascade Bush bow.

I have 13 bows. I do not wish to part with any. I could be happy plus all my archery activities could be completely satisfied by using only my Howard Hill Archery 64” 45# Legend Stick and my Howard Hill Archery 64” 50# Legend Stick. However, why not be greedy and instead possess 13 bows. If I could only possess 3 bows, then in my order of importance I would keep:
Howard Hill Archery 64” 45# Legend Stick
Howard Hill Archery 64” 50# Legend Stick
Bear Archery 64” 50# Montana
Here are three that
winds my watch.
I would take an ASL, a primitive bow, probably similar to an Eastern Woodlands design, and likely an ELB. I very seldom shoot my recurves, but it is possible it could nose out one of the others.
Three bows? I need to convince the wife that I need one more....
I’d have to keep my Hill Tembo string follow, as I’ve killed more animals with that bow than anything else. I have a Wesley Special that although a little lite at 52 pounds is a great shooter and I’d probably keep it. Lastly I’d keep my Northern Mist string follow I just bought used, until my custom Northern Mist is delivered, then I guess I’d lose the Wesley Special and the half dozen Bear Kodiaks I don’t shoot anymore. I’ve had a bunch of different custom recurves but I got rid of them after my first ASL.
Why only 3 😁
I think, if you need to downsize, search your soul and keep the three that make you feel good just holding them. If it changes later, change the line up.
Three bows? That's a tough one. You know you literally addressed this to all us "bow hoarders", right, Bob? LOL. I'm trying to wrap my mind around reducing my collection to around twenty bows. Realistically, I spend about 95% of my time with my ASL's. Still, I guess if I had to limit myself to just three that are currently in the stable, I'd pick one selfbow, an R/D longbow and an ASL...
1. Selfbow: Swiftwood recurve
2. R/D longbow: James Berry Taipan II
3. ASL: My black & yellow glass Sunset Hill
Both Nate and James are making bows for me this year. James is building a Heritage for me and Nate a play cousin to the black & yellow bow above (currently undergoing a resize of the grip and new name, "Cinder-Yella"). Thank goodness this is just one of Clovis' viscous games one can only imagine originated from a really bad night's sleep. Get well soon, Bob! This, too, shall pass. 😎
My Bear Mag riser w/ a new set of SS curve limbs.
My Wes Wallace Royal R/D LB
My Vintage Works 62 Bear Kodiak repro.
The last two are a must save, gifts from my wife!
I have them
2 Yellowstone Custom bow Halfbreeds
Yellowstone custom Longbow.
3 of the same.
1 Howard Hill WS
2 Howard Hill Big 5
3 Jerry Hill Stalker Deluxe
Extra credit
I only own 1 more bow. A Jerry Hill Wildcat ll. 😅
Been there done that with golf clubs, flyrods and guitars...😎
Personally, if I had to make that choice, it would have to be
1: John Schulz American Longbow, all bamboo string follow ASL
2: John Schulz American Longbow, bamboo/glass setback ASL
3: Gerald Welch all yew English Longbow
