I talked with Craig yesterday at HHA. As most of you know his build time historically has been 4 months or less. The current build list time frame for 2021 is 9 months!!! There's a lot of new Hill longbows being built.
"The passion is still holding strong for the American Semi Longbow"
I just order at the end of 2020, I think I will make the 4 months or less crowd.
My newest HHA longbow came in right before the holidays last year. It took about 4 months too.
I have ordered several bows from Craig and always had them within 3 weeks.
Hopefully it is a surge in business. I don’t like reading about our favorite vendors, bow makers etc. being in ill health . Been to much of that lately.
I was hoping to order a Legend Stick in the next couple of months for the spring, but it sounds like that might take a bit longer than planned.
Wow haven’t heard about that. I’ve ordered several from Craig the longest took exactly 30 days. He’s either cutting way back or something I don’t see HH going from one month 9 months on orders only. That be a lot of new Hill bows being built.
Craig said it’s the busiest they’ve been in awhile.
@Bowman My next bow maybe a Legend Stick too.
I am sure that Nate said Craig's Legend Stick is the closest model to Howard's White Eagle made by HHA. I am considering having the depth of the grip dropped by 1/4" while maintaining the profile. Will have to email HHA and find out what Craig thinks in terms of time.
I can't remember what year it was but Howard Hill Archery was featured in Instinctive Archer magazine. At that time, I remember reading HHA was building 100 longbows a year. I believe this was in the late 90's.
I remember when the ”Hill bug thread” was going on TG Craig was loaded down with new orders and I don’t think they got past 2 months waiting. Good for HHill if they have that many orders. Craig makes a fine ASL but his short build time was one of his main selling points. 9 months puts him behind Northern Mist and on the longer wait times in the ASL market. I guess the best part about it with all those new ASLs there should be some deals on the used market in the next couple years, I hope theres a lot of 60+ # being ordered preferably in 66”.
All the bows that I’ve ordered from Craig were in the 4 to 6 week build range.
@Bowman The Legend Stick is modeled after Howard’s longbow Pasadamana that Craig owns.
Well this sounds like some further “investigative journalism” into build times may be required. I’m sure my wife will buy that excuse when a long tube arrives on our porch in four weeks to nine months.... I better buy a dog house while I’m at it.
