I've had some personal issues get in the way of shooting lately, but I did pick up my first self bow, made by Ryan Gill. It’s 66” long,Osage Orange, and with tips like an old Grumley. What a fine shooting bow! The simplicity, the natural wood, the whisper of the arrow leaving the string, and watching the arrow fly to its mark is oh so satisfying. I’ve also been watching for a particular bow to show up in the classifieds. It finally showed up, and I bought it. I made the deal with Rick Green for the DAS Master Hunter, with a set of limbs Made by Centaur Archery. I wasn’t surprised by the speed of the arrow. I was surprised how whisper quiet it was, how forgiving it was, how comfortable to shoot it was, and how pleasant it was to shoot. These 2 bows are so different, yet so similar to me. Yes I know the DAS is not traditional, but what I discovered is this. when the string leaves my fingers, and launches the arrow, I can watch it in flight. That to me, is what is so satisfying. Without comparing my self bow to my DAS bow, the fact is that I get the same thrill watching the arrow fly from both bows. I do not get that feeling from my compound bow, because I never can see my arrow fly. FYI, the DAS was made by David Sosa, prior to selling his company to 3 Rivers. The Centaur reflexed longbow limbs have a wood core, with carbon back, and carbon belly.

Dave,
I'm tickled to death that you're happy with that rig! I still have my DAS Elite, and the versatility they offer is amazing. I'm an ASL guy at heart, but that Elite with a set of 60# Centaurs is my go-to bowfishing and air travel set up. And it always shoots like an old friend. Tough to beat! Continue to enjoy, my friend!

Dave, I told you if you’re okay with the metal DAS is hard to beat! Glad to hear you’re enjoying the bows.
Thanks guys, but, although there is no danger in agreeing if that's what you really think, there is danger in blindly following someone, anyone, cept maybe the deity of your choice. I try real hard to say my piece, but say it nicely. Seems most of us here tend to do the same. That's one of several reasons i like this place.

If ever I find myself NOT agreeing with Chuck. I'll have to get in my old football 3 point stance, sans helmet, and tackle an oak tree!!
I agree with ChuckC. As long as it is not a compound, it is traditional enough. Just shoot it and have fun. A picture of it with a deer will be welcome if you are that fortunate. It is true that the site is heavy on ASL, but that in no way suggests that other bows are not represented here. While many do prefer the Longbow, other styles are welcome and well represented. It's all good.
On another point, I find myself very often agreeing with ChuckC on many things. There's no danger in that is there?
Silver arrow. To jump in. This site, at least was, very heavy on ASL or Hill style users. BUT....and its a big but ( gotta love them)....that is not all that is allowed. Like all things in life, mama nature loves infinite variety. As some like tall partners, others prefer shorter ones, red hair, yellow hair, brown hair and nearly no hair at all, so are there large varieties of what we lovingly call "traditional" bows. So grab that red glassed, brown glassed, carbon or other bow and swing er round and round. No time for looking down on any one of em, it s bow shooting time.
Those are some nice sounding bows!
Good news silverarrow. Nothing like being satisfied and confident when you shoot bows that make you a happy archer. Any pics?
