I have a Princeton Tech head light that has a short. It had a very nice option for a white light or LED light. The white light was nice for blood trailing. I don't think that option is available any more. Anyone have a head light that they're comfortable with for hunting?
There's so many out there it's mind boggling.

Walmart energizer that is rechargable in truck
better than the more expensive Petzel
very bright and has red option
Me too so far as the Energizers.
I just keep extra AAA batteries in my bag.
Just a FYI follow up update. I purchased the Energizer model "Trailfinder Headlamp" with tracking mode. It has Red, White, and Blue LEDs. It is 250 lumens. It is shock resistant and water resistant. It cost $18 at Walmart. Unfortunately it is only rated as lasting 5 hrs at 250 lumens from three AAA batteries. It supposedly will last 30 hrs in dim mode. When I purchased the original Energizer headlamps, LEDs were relatively new. Battery life was a major promoted feature. I no longer know the lumens, but they are observably obviously MUCH dimmer than my new 200 Lumen headlamp. Each of the old ones lasted the entire deer archery season from three AAA batteries. I will probably need three new AAA batteries per every 5 hunting trips with the new Energizer headlamps. I am still happy with my purchases. I guess the Energizer battery sales will be happy also LOL.
Hey Guys, Thanks for the responses. It looks like Princeton Tec is going to repair the one I have. With that in mind it could be added to the mix if anyone else is looking. Pretty nice in our throw away society.

Size matters.
My experience agrees with Dodger. Petzl's are quality lights. And they make the smallest headlamp I've ever had. Here's a link to see it:

I used one on my Appalachian Trail thru hike in 2019 and it went the whole way on one set of batteries. I used it to cook in the morning and evening and to read for a while before bed.
I still use it all the time and it goes in my hunting pack every year. It takes up almost no room and is surprisingly comfortable to wear. Good bright light, good dim light and good red light. Super durable.
My favorite is also the several models of energizer headlamps that one can pick up cheaply at Walmart. They work very well. They are relatively durable. I bought three of them from Walmart many years ago. None of them wore out or ever failed. After about 17 years of use, I managed to break/smash two of them last season due to extreme mistreatment. I just bought a new replacement. I plan to buy another. I only bought one at first because they looked so different now than the ones I bought years ago. I found the new one to be superior in just about every way to my older ones. The biggest improvement is the recessed on/off switch which can not easily be accidently turned on while being carried. One had to be careful with the old type switch or otherwise one would learn that they had been carrying the headlamp turned on all day in their pocked or pack. The only downside is a lesser battery life because the headlamps of the various models are so much brighter. Some models (i.e., the most expensive) are available with both a red LED and a blue LED for blood tracking. The various models depending on their features and LED brightness ranged from $8 to $20. I paid $10 for my trial model. I will now purchase the $20 model with White, Red, and Blue LEDs plus various modes such as spot, flood, wide beam, etc.
I've had good luck with a mid-price range Black Diamond. Very compact. Adjustable (dimmer) light, included a red light. Couple of triple A batteries. About $40.
I agree with James. I’ve had my Fenix HM50R for a couple of seasons and it’s been perfect. The battery charge lasts a long time, and it also takes regular 123 batteries if you don’t want to use the rechargeables. I think Felix still has a 20% off deal for your fist order.
Fenix with the rechargeable batteries.
I started out with a couple of Princeton Techs in the early 2000s. I liked them but had issues with both and switched to Petzl.
I am currently on my third or fourth Petzl model (upgrades) and have found them to be very reliable.
The current model is a Petzl TACTIKKA +RGB with Petzl Core rechargeable Li-Ion battery (it can also take three AAA cells) that I have been using since 2019 and I am very happy with it. It should make a good hunting light though I have only used it for fishing and other hands-free tasks.

I have bough expensive ones like a black diamond and others with ok results. Believe it or not my favorite is a energizer that you can pick up at Walmart cheap. They seam to be brighter with red led options. I have never bought high dollar light that made me feel like it was worth it.
