From the January, 1957 edition of Convairiety, a bi-monthly publication centered around employee and company activities. The company encouraged, fostered, and supported many dozens of employee clubs and activities. Convair even supplied a clubhouse, across the road from the plant, for the use of archery club members. There, archers could do everything from making arrows to building bows.
San Diego was home to a pair of Convair facilities, Kearny Mesa (Astronautical Div) and San Diego (Downtown). Convair is a defense contractor responsible for building many of the US military's most recognizable aircraft and missiles. At one time, they were most likely the largest employer in San Diego. Both are divisions of General Dynamics, however, the Kearny Mesa facility is long gone and covered with condominiums.
Convair, Rohr, and Ryan Aeronautical, all had archery clubs and ranges. They all had common members and joint activities.
Harry Ross, picured, was a former San Diego FieldArcher/San Diego Archers's president, and operated an archery shop in the basement of his home in National City, South of San Diego.

Great stuff
Wow, that’s a young Harry Ross! I remember him from many a shoot. I didn’t know about the corporate sponsored clubs though. I did know a couple of guys in Bearstate that worked at Convair. They must have started after this as they didn’t mention the club. Thanks for posting.
