Chief Compton: The Forgotten Father of ArcheryIf you are a bowhunter, you may appreciate the story of Chief Compton, a forgotten figure of the sport. When you start talking the founders of modern archery, there are a few names that invariably …
Yikes!! I edited it. I think Rose was a waitress I met once... she had a bow but it was in her hair..lol
I knew Roy was a pioneer for archerty hunting in Wisconsin. No blood on the arrow Chuck. I just watched the video again of his son Caleb Case and he said his Dad replaced the arrow for the photo. A neat video btw.
Deno..Rose or Roy ? Yeah, Roy was part of that group that was trying to open up hunting to include archery. An arrow in a dead critter meant success so it was important...then. BTW..i just noticed. Did you see any blood anywhere on that arrow ?
Thinking out loud ( and likely misguided), although I myself don't appreciate "arrows still in critters" pix, we should probably remember that...a) it was a different time and world, b) these early pioneers were on a mission to show that bows and arrows were very sufficient for hunting even the biggest and fleetest game. Arrows thru the critter in hand more or less confirm that point.
I really admire those guys and am a bit jealous of what they did.
Thanks Deno,that was very interesting.
Good find, Deno. That picture is a 'classic'.
