I have some burlap targets that are approaching the end of their usefulness. I also have several yards of black burlap that I got for free several years ago. At some point the two entered my mind at the same time and that light bulb appeared over my head. Why not make new ones?
First I cut my black burlap to the appropriate size and sewed a hem all the way around. (Yes I sew regularly----what???)
Then I laid the old one over the new one keeping them together with some office type spring clips. The weave on the old one is open enough to poke a silver Sharpie through it to make a series of dots all the way around for a kind of "Connect the Dots" pattern.
Then it was a matter of drawing between the dots and adding some color. I used some extremely thinned acrylic paint that my wife and I use to paint inspirational rocks. (WHAT?? Yes inspirational rocks - get over it!)
I used a 1/4" artist brush and roughly painted in the colors.
Here's the results.
The old one

New one

Almost to nice to use as a target.
"We leave them all over the country"
Some places call that littering. 😈
I wish the 3 and 4 foot Saunders mats were still available. They were a major part of my target shooting routine, when loaded on a wheeled cart they became part of my longbow routine. It is not much the burlap as what it covers that counts.
OK, I have to admit I have an inspirational stone. There, I said it! My mother's neighbor made it.
I cook and sew. What of it?
Nice job. Doesn't everybody sew. Cook, too, for that matter. I made a number of down vests and jackets with down I collected from Canada gees I shot. Still don't like darning my socks though. Hmmmm. Does anyone even do that anymore? 🙄
Great ideas and nice work
Wow JB. Kudos to your Mrs. The rocks are beautiful. Reminds me of my old '69 VW band bus...lol
🌼😤 💮
Nice
That looks really nice, are they for sale?
Oh, so do the rocks!
Inspirational rocks??? 🤣
Nice job Jim.
