"'straight limbed longbow will take a natural stringfollow set'
I have read this on different sites and have two questions on glass backed ASL bows.
First is, why? Is it core compression. I would have expected the glass to keep original shape up.
Second, Is it also true then that a stringfollow limb and backset limb also take a set?
Thanks.
I have a Hill longbow that was left loaded for 6 months, it took a set when finally unloaded, the back set was gone on the top limb and the bottom limb even more. At first it seemed permanent, but after a month, I lined it up to another Hill longbow and it was back to normal. An ASL with very slim tips, a thick core and minimal belly glass will take a temporary follow at the tips when un loaded, I have one of those as well, it goes back to normal after a short rest.
never seen any change with any of my ASL's or recurves for that mater
Once had a BW strung for years and it never changed or lost any #'s
That would be my expectation. The sticky on this site on limb choice does not specify if bow is backed or not.
I have never seen a Hill style or any stye bow (glass/laminated) for that matter change shape after use. My first "Hill" bow is a Big5 made by Tim Meigs in about 1977, it has 3/4" of back set and still does after probably more the 10,000 shots. That might be true for a non-laminated/glass back bow.
