Just spoke to the Wildlife folks in Ga. Yes on the three day and getting two back to back but if purchasing online she suggested making two separate purchases so it does not confuse the software. She even said it might be a good idea to buy the initial three day online and then buy another three day apprentice license locally.

She also said "yes" on the WMA license requirement. The three day apprentice does not cover the WMA license access. I'm spending the extra so as not to create a bad situatiuon for myself.

With the green light on the six day option, I may come down earlier in the week and make it a longer hunt. Gotta get the truck in order.

RC,

What do the dirt roads look like down there? I hope better than our last day there last year. They were soup.

Way too far for me but I'm throwing something into the pot for fun so I can be there in spirit anyway.  First TAS member to get a hog on this hunt, any size, gets a pack of Tusker broadheads of their choosing.  Any style, weight or price, winner picks!  But you guys are gonna have to kill something to collect.

So Tuskers for the first Tusker![biggrin]

Guys have fun, I wanna see a bunch of pics when you get back though.

They soup right now but its way to early to tell. Best thing to happen is the swamp to flood and we have sunny days to hunt. that will get our pigs out of the swamp and up on the upper part drains.RC

Only a couple weeks to go. I talked to my hunting partner yesterday to make sure he can go a few days early. I want to get their Monday or Tuesday.

Its cold today for sure but the wind has dried up the roads and the swamp is flooded. Pigs gotta eat when its cold even more so than normal. I plan on being there on Monday still. I bought a new sleeping blanket rated to 0 degrees and got a load of firewood. RC

My plans may change. Heat pump crapped out. Depending on the repair bill I may have to cancel. Repairman couldn't make it out today. I may have to allocate the hunt funds to the "keep-me-and-the-wife-warm" funds.

Whatever happens is meant to be. I have had plans changed before. Family and personal needs (and my wife's need for heat) take priority. Will keep y'all posted.

I'm off all week so I had planned on coming down Monday and leaving Sunday. I think Todd was coming down Weds or Thurs.

RC, I had hoped to shadow you a bit and try to learn a thing or two. Just being in your shadow while armed with bow and arrow and pigs nearby would be a treat of a lifetime.

Good Lord willing it'll be low bucks, as in a few hundred or less. If it's a whole new heat pump, the trip is toast.

I had to cancel another trip in late Dec due to a family matter. But things happen for specific reasons. I am not one to question in depth as to why, just accept it and move on.

We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Still out. Repairman just left. He doesn't have the part it needs. It may have to come from the factory. Time to go shoot the bow for an escape. We have a nice little kerosene heater that's chugging along. No fireplace [frown]

Thought Id bring this back up.
My preliminary pile of must haves has begun in the corner of my work shop and hopefully it will be smaller than last years pile as im trying to minimize [biggrin]. Shafts are made, broadheads are sharp, and by Grace
Ill be setting up camp by 4:30 on Wednesday and with weather permitting maybe playing the ole 6 string and drinking a cold one by 6:30.
Hogs or no Hogs this promises to be another great gathering of like minded traditional archers where new friendships will be made, old friendships rekindled and just a few days afield doing what we love to do will be enjoyed by all.

Hey Bud, I'm guessing you made it through the cold snap ok? When did you get your heat back on brother?

My sympathy goes to you guys out there braving the cold, we are supposed to get a spell of it in the UK but won't be as bad, keep warm, and arrows flying.

Part is still on order. It's like a motor designed to run off 8 cylinders but four stop when not under a load. Right now without the cold snap it's holding up but if it goes back down into the 20's I'm supplementing with kerosene. My motor can only go 4 cylinders tops at the moment, if that makes sense.

Waiting on the repair and the...gasp...bill.

The trip ain't called yet...I'm just waiting to see.

Oh yeah, I gotya, and am familiar. Dang, well at least you have a heat source. Hope it doesn't knock you out of the hunt. I may get knocked out due to work.....again! May not know until Thursday or Friday of. If we both get knocked out, I may have an idea for us to get over the hog hunt blues.

Hey Rod,
I was watching a Nat Geo special the other night and I didn't realize you guys had reintroduced (some by mistake) the European boars for sporting purposes. Are you able to hunt them other than on the preserves, and can you use archery equipment to do so?

When Hurricane Floyd came thru many years ago there were domestic pigs lost due to the flooding, however, not all were lost to death. There are hogs on Columbus County Game Lands down east, but they are sparse and have loads of gun pressure. Hip boots are needed. I was there last week and was limited to the high areas. I saw sign, but not fresh sign. The scrub oaks between the pines were dang thick.

I believe the European Boar were introduced for the Biltmore Estate and as time passed they got loose. Now they are not regulated as a game animal any longer.

If game lands in NC have hogs they can be hunted as long as some other small game or big game seasn is in. Squirrel goes out Feb 27th or 28th. So does hog hunting on game lands until deer opens again in the fall.

Far Rider if you're referring to hunting boar in the UK it can be done.... but not with a bow. Archery hunting is completely illegal there.

Only a week to go!  I've got two new bows I'm finishing up, pushing hard to make sure they're good to go for the hunt.  They're shootable, but would be nice to be finished.

Killie just told me she got the leave off from work and another friend of ours (Andy) said he would come as well.  So there should be 3 of us from Northern VA showing up Thursday afternoon.  But it looks like we should be able to stay through Sunday, leaving Monday morning.

I will look forward to seeing those in person, finished or not!

Our little group had our pre-hunt logistics call last night. Nick and I will leave Michigan early Wednesday morning and get as far as Steve's house that night. We'll roll into camp around noon Thursday and go straight out hunting. We'll be heading out of camp sometime Sunday afternoon. Should be a great trip!

Oh and I've got the camera and tripod packed so we can get a new picture!

@canopyboy, those bows look great! The depth and thickness of the grip looks good, and the way the lamination narrows as it comes up the sweep is perfect!

I think RC is getting his wish. With the rain we've had the water should still be WAY up.
